Council awards cemetery tree‑removal contract to local tree trimmer after bid opening

The Farrant City Council accepted a low bid at its May 13 meeting to remove 34 large pines and one ash tree from the city cemetery.
Council opened three bids. Tip Top Tree Service offered a lump sum of about $184,430; ZTrees presented options (roughly $102,000 and $155,500 on different scopes); and Tolbert Tree Trimming submitted the low bid, read into the record at approximately $86,000 (with an optional reseed/add-on discussed). Council and staff emphasized headstone protection and site restoration during work.
Council discussed scheduling around Memorial Day and the need for contractors to work around burials and grave markers. The accepted bid includes stump grinding below grade, hauling and topsoil restoration; an optional reseed was discussed but council noted reseeding may be unsuitable this dry year. Tolbert was the only bidder present to answer questions and provided references and insurance documentation.
A motion to accept Tolbert Tree Trimming's bid was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Council noted the contractor expects to begin work June 10 and to finish by July 17, and staff will monitor burial scheduling and require care around monuments. The council said the city will pursue county assistance if additional funding is needed.
