Eric, the aquatics lead, said lifeguard and water-safety training have been completed and a test run with lifeguards and volunteers is planned this weekend to verify showers, systems and staffing. "Carbondale Aquatic Center grand opening, Saturday, May 23, 12 to 6PM," Eric said, inviting the public to opening-day events including contests and giveaways.
Officials discussed season length, winterization and how the facility’s heat systems (referred to as "big boppers") affect shoulder-season operations. Eric said staffing had been a tight issue but that the department is now fully staffed to hold the published schedule; he said the town will finalize the summer schedule once training is fully complete.
On budget, a project representative reiterated confidence the project will finish within the reported $13,419,000 figure and characterized recent probable change orders as small and manageable.
