Library programming and facilities were also a focus. The Library Director updated the board on budget coordination with finance staff and city management and reported the facilities master plan shows potential expansion or a branch. "We are on the facilities master plan for an expansion or a branch or hopefully both," the Library Director said, adding that although the master plan presented a two‑year timeline the director thought five years may be more realistic.
The director also reported an increase in nonresident "enhanced" library cards (which require a $25 fee and annual renewal for nonresidents; resident cards are valid for three years without fee) and previewed spring and summer events: an Elizabeth Kahura program, a Maker Market on May 30 and Maker Fest on the first Saturday in June (staff later confirmed Maker Fest as June 6). The director noted teen intern and graduate student support for archives work and outreach plans to senior centers and housing complexes.
The board discussed plans for a Friends and Library Summit in August, with tentative dates held and a goal to make the event free to participants by sourcing donations for lunch and materials. Several board members volunteered to assist with outreach and sourcing.
