Ferron City formalized a standardized vandalism incident reporting procedure during its April 15 meeting, aiming to create a consistent record of materials, labor and costs for vandalism at city properties including Mayor Park, the fairgrounds and the golf course.
Mayor Trent Jackson said reporting has been inconsistent between maintenance and the golf course. He asked city staff to develop a form; Barb (city staff) presented the updated form, which will be available online and in paper and asks for case numbers to tie incidents to law-enforcement reports. Barb told the council the city has spent about $600 so far in the 2025–2026 period on graffiti removal and repairs and gave examples including missing swings at Mayor Park that required replacement.
Council members discussed the possibility of installing security cameras and updating restroom door locks similar to those at the new fairgrounds restrooms, but noted the cost and the need to provide power and internet to camera sites. Councilmember Mike Behling moved to begin using the updated vandalism form; Councilmember Vance Brown seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The council said consistent reporting will help quantify vandalism costs and inform future budget decisions regarding cameras or lock systems.
