Ferron Council adopts midyear budget amendment, moves Fairgrounds to capital account

Mayor Trent Jackson and the Ferron City Council adopted a midyear amendment to the 2025–2026 budget on April 15, approving Resolution 2026-4.15 to revise allocations across the General Fund, Class C roads, Capital Projects, the Local Building Authority (LBA), water and sewer utilities, secondary water, the golf course and perpetual care.

Mayor Trent Jackson said wages were moved back to their original accounts after payroll transactions were found not to have been withdrawn from the budgeted accounts. He told the council that the General Fund and Class C accounts were not balanced, that the Fairgrounds building at the Agricultural Center had been moved from the General Fund to the Capital Account, and that the LBA currently shows $173,000 set aside toward a purchase from the Bureau of Land Management. "If there is any money left over from this year it will be appropriated to next year's budget," Jackson said.

Council discussion noted utilities are imbalanced: water showed a positive balance while sewer was negative, and the golf course carried the largest deficit. Councilmember Ray Petersen said the golf course had just started its season and officials hope operations will improve its balance.

Councilmember Ray Petersen moved to adopt the budget revision; Councilmember Mike Behling seconded. The motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote.

The amendment directs staff to close out the current fiscal year and, where applicable, appropriate any surplus to next year’s budget. The council also approved several related administrative items during the meeting, including standardizing vandalism-reporting forms and a request to Rocky Mountain Power to relocate a pole for an upcoming curb and sidewalk project. The council expects to continue budget work during the 2026–2027 budget process.
