Commission approves volunteers, part-time hire, invoices and settlements; tables park seasonal hires

The Commission approved two CERT volunteers, hired a part-time case aide (up to 19.5 hours/week) pending background checks, approved invoices, vacation orders and listed settlements and refunds. The seasonal Recreational Park hires were tabled until May 14 for review by the new Pool Director.
During routine business May 7, the Upshur County Commission approved a set of administrative and personnel actions. The Commission approved Betty Collins and David Sack as Community Emergency Response Team volunteers pending background checks. The Commission also approved a request from Cheyenne Troxell, director of the 18th Judicial Circuit Community Corrections Program, to hire Jennifer Ocheltree as a part-time case aide effective May 18, 2026; the position is limited to 19.5 hours per week and will float between Upshur and Lewis counties, contingent on a successful background check.
The Commission approved all listed invoices for payment and authorized submitted vacation orders. It also approved several settlements and exoneration/refund orders as detailed in the meeting materials and approved listed staff requests to attend out-of-county meetings in July. Tabatha Perry asked that hiring of seasonal pool and park staff be tabled to the May 14 meeting so the new Pool Director, Rena Zirkle, can review the candidate list; the Commission approved the tabling motion.
