Commission approves July 8 celebration, Strawberry Festival and three proclamations

The Upshur County Commission approved multiple community events and proclamations during its May 7 meeting. The Commission authorized the Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau to host an America’s 250th celebration in front of the Courthouse on July 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and approved the Upshur County Extension Office’s Strawberry Festival activities scheduled for May 15, 2026.
County Administrator Tabatha R. Perry read a National Day of Prayer proclamation at 9:30 a.m.; the Commission approved the proclamation and attended the observance led by Reverend Eddie McDaniels. At 10:00 a.m., Kathy McMurray, executive director of Mountain CAP of WV, presented a proclamation recognizing May as Community Action Month and reported Mountain CAP served 1,010 families (2,299 individuals) in 2025. At 10:15 a.m., Stephanie Hoover of Mountain Heart Community Services presented a proclamation recognizing May 8 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day; she was joined by local providers Jana Ware and Briana Warner. Each proclamation was approved by the Commission.
