Motion to award Fallon Elementary roof contract fails after committee questions timing amid redistricting concerns

The Pawtucket School Committee rejected a facilities subcommittee recommendation on May 12 to award the Fallon Memorial Elementary roof replacement contract to Commercial Roofing & Contracting Inc.

Facilities staff presented the project as a Garland roof product with an optional ad‑alternate to extend the base warranty from 30 to 40 years. The bid amount was presented in the meeting as $2,000,011. The facilities presenter described the contractor as experienced across Rhode Island and recommended the award.

Several committee members questioned moving forward on capital work that they said could lock the district into a building for decades while the district considers redistricting and potential school closures. One member asked whether the redistricting ad hoc committee had been consulted; presenters said Fallon had been slated for work and that the project had to be completed within a grant/contract deadline.
