Board members discussed details and trade-offs before voting to enlarge the crowd's nest by 4 feet on each side. District staff described the project's estimated total cost at about $212,000, which includes an additional roughly $12,000 to add the extra four feet. "It's one of those things you do once, and you do it once for the next few decades," a board member said during discussion, urging the board to consider long-term benefit over short-term cost.
Following debate about accessibility, sight lines for visiting teams, and possible related upgrades (lighting and camera/streaming infrastructure), a motion to approve the additional spending was moved, seconded and carried on a roll-call vote.
At the same meeting the board approved two resolutions to amend appropriations: one for the special revenue fund and another for the capital projects fund, both for fiscal year 2025–26. The capital-projects amendment reflected adjustments for a seismic grant and additional COPS grant spending that closed before June 30. The board also approved a motion to transfer $200,000 from the general fund into fund 407 to create additional capital flexibility.
District staff said recent reconciliations with two partner programs drove larger revenue and expense adjustments; the operations report showed roughly $300,000 to $400,000 of additional state funds related to those reconciliations, which staff used in part to justify the capital spending and transfers.
The board recorded aye votes on the motions during the meeting. No funding offset or specific timeline for the crow's-nest construction was announced at the meeting; staff indicated more project planning and scheduling would follow.
Next steps: staff will proceed with project planning and return any additional required contract approvals or timeline updates to the board for future action.
