LEPC outlines 2026 training plan, evacuation plan and donated mass-casualty trailer

The Storey County Local Emergency Planning Committee discussed 2026 training opportunities, emergency evacuation planning and a donated mass-casualty trailer intended to fill equipment gaps for large events.

Members noted ICS 300/400 is scheduled for May 4–8 at the TRI Center and that a lithium-battery tabletop exercise has a flyer available; registration information was listed at nvqts.com and in meeting materials. The training overview was presented as informational; no formal approvals were recorded.

At the Emergency Management Director’s report, staff said an evacuation plan for the park is close to being finalized and that routing and staging will be situational during an incident. "Evacuation Plan here in the park – working on it getting, close to being finalized," the director reported, noting route posting and final traffic decisions depend on circumstances.

Jason Wierzbicki, Storey County Public Works, said traffic studies are underway with planning and the county manager’s office to ease congestion on Waltham, including converting a turn pocket to a travel lane; crews planned to stripe Waltham and Peru. Cari Rioux, Quad-County Emergency Preparedness, described the donated mass-casualty trailer now staged in Virginia City and ongoing purchases to outfit it to address identified gaps. The committee discussed staging locations and logistics for large events.

Members were also reminded of public-health coordination for fall flu-shot planning with local schools and the county. The meeting closed with no public comment and adjournment at 10:12 a.m.
