County accepts donated battlefield cross for veterans display

Hardin County Commissioners on May 12 accepted a donation of a replica, non-firing M16 battlefield cross from Alex and Debbie Parker for display by the Hardin County Veterans Service Department.
Purchasing agent/judge introduced the Parkers and the donation; Alex Parker described the memorial: boots that have traveled widely, dog tags and a flag that flew during a combat mission in Afghanistan. The Parkers said they worked with Veteran Service Officer Kristen White and other local helpers to prepare the display. The court moved to accept the donation and approved placing the piece under the care of the Veterans Service Department for display and transport to veteran events as needed.
Court members clarified custody and use: the flag referenced by the Parkers will remain with the donor but a flag will be provided for display use; the veteran service officer will maintain custody and coordinate display requests from veteran organizations.
The court thanked Alex and Debbie Parker for the donation and the motion passed by voice vote.
