Athens Civil Service Commission appoints chair, vice chair and interim civil service director

The Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission of the City of Athens met in special session Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, and unanimously appointed Tony Kalawe as Commission Chairman, Lisa Collins as Vice Chairman, and Mandie Quigg as interim Civil Service Director.
Vice Chairman Lisa Collins moved to appoint Tony Kalawe as chairman, and Member Jack Harrington seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Member Jack Harrington nominated Lisa Collins for vice chairman, a motion seconded by Chairman Kalawe and approved unanimously. Vice Chairman Collins moved and Member Harrington seconded a motion to appoint Mandie Quigg as Civil Service Director in the interim after Sissy Geddies departure; that motion also passed unanimously.
The appointments were made under the local civil service statutory provisions cited to the Commission (Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143.006(e) for officer appointments and Chapter 143.012 for the civil service director). The Commission additionally reviewed and approved the minutes of its June 18, 2024, special session by motion of Member Jack Harrington, seconded by Vice Chairman Lisa Collins.
The special session convened at 11:00 a.m. and adjourned at 11:26 a.m.
