Onalaska swears in Timothy Berg as police chief

The Onalaska Common Council formally swore in Timothy (Tim) Berg as the city's police chief during its May 12 meeting.
Joanne Marcon administered the oath of office and Berg repeated it, pledging to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Wisconsin and to "faithfully and impartially discharge the duties" of office. After the swearing-in, Berg thanked attendees and said he was honored by the trust placed in him.
Mayor Kim Smith introduced Berg by noting his long local ties: Berg moved to Onalaska as a child, graduated from Onalaska High School and holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin'Platteville. The mayor and council recounted Berg's nearly three decades in law enforcement, including service in West Salem and many roles in the Onalaska Police Department from officer to interim chief.
"This means a lot to me to have so many people here," Berg said. "I'm really excited about this opportunity. It also means a lot that the city has entrusted me with this responsibility." Mayor Smith thanked Berg and paused briefly for departing visitors before resuming the meeting.
The swearing-in included a short pinning ceremony and brief remarks; no formal council action was required to take effect beyond the appointment process already completed.
