Haysville students perform as board hands out staff and student awards

The Haysville Board of Education opened its meeting with a performance by the district fourth- and fifth-grade honor choir, introduced by Marcela Harding, who said the group has 39 members and 14 performers that evening. Board members and attendees applauded individual students who introduced themselves after the song.
Jillian Macias led a recognition segment honoring staff and students with the district's '2 6 wonderful' awards. Recipients included Lisa Pipkin, described as a FACTS teacher at Campus High School; Michelle Steen, a long-serving secretary at Rex Elementary who is retiring after more than 20 years; several paraprofessionals and student nominees; and Kayson McIntosh, a student recognized for presenting at an educators' conference.
The board invited family members to join recipients for photographs. The honors segment concluded with the board presenting a retirement recognition and scholarship in the name of Superintendent Jeff Hirsch.
