A presenter with the local coalition told the South Weber City Council that the SHARP student survey, an opt-in survey for grades 6–12, shows encouraging declines in youth substance use and some improvements in mental-health indicators in Davis County between 2021 and 2025.
The presenter said the survey is administered every two years and requires opt-in at the district, parent and student levels. She described decreases in reported lifetime or 30‑day use of vaping products, alcohol and marijuana and said the data, combined with local listening sessions and public records, helps staff target evidence‑based prevention strategies.
The presenter detailed programs the coalition uses or promotes, including free multiweek parent programs with childcare and meals, youth summits, volunteer service projects and school recognition efforts. She said those programs aim to increase protective factors such as parental monitoring, youth engagement in community service and positive school recognition.
“This is giving us some feedback that what we’re doing is helping in those areas,” the presenter said, urging parents to complete the county parent survey so local planning reflects community needs.
Council members thanked the presenter and discussed opportunities for outreach, including inviting the coalition to set up a booth at South Weber City Days and sharing the presentation materials with staff. The presenter offered handouts and QR codes to help increase parent participation.
The council did not take formal action on the presentation. Council members suggested partnering on outreach and youth programs and asked staff to share the presenter’s materials with relevant departments.
