Taylor band reaches state finals; director highlights wide student participation

Max Johnson, the district band director, told the board that Taylor's band program had a breakout season, earning gold ratings at invitational and regional competitions and placing among the top bands at state finals.
"Taylor Marching Band earned a gold rating at ISMA open invitational...placing a place at state finals for the first time in 11 years," Johnson said, listing numerous student acceptances to honor bands and strong solo and ensemble results. He said more than 100 high-school and middle-school students participated in ISMA solo events and that many students had top statewide recognition.
Johnson described curricular and extracurricular strengths — including jazz bands, a high-scoring Winter Guard and the marching show "The Red Door" — and thanked the board for its support of band trips and activities. The presentation included named students who earned honors and an invitation for award recipients to accept small tokens of recognition.
The board acknowledged the accomplishments during the regular meeting; no formal action was required beyond the recognition.
