Oregon School District highlights visioning work, cell-phone policy update and Jan. 5 late-start for staff collaboration

Superintendent Dr. Leslie Bergstrom told the School Board on Aug. 25 that she had met with the district's new educators to review the district’s Visioning and Strategic Planning Framework, reinforcing goals on Readiness for Learning, Focused & Engaged Learning, and High-Quality Collaborative Teaching.
Dr. Bergstrom said the work informs an updated student cell-phone policy and that the district will implement a one-hour late start for students beginning Jan. 5, 2026 to provide staff time for collaboration. She also provided a brief federal and state legislative budget update, warning that the district will face budgetary challenges in coming years; detailed budget figures were not provided in the meeting minutes.
Dr. Mary Lokuta reported that the Policy Committee discussed two policies at its June 21 meeting that will be brought to the board on Sept. 8 and that a September Policy Committee meeting is being scheduled. After the open meeting the board recessed to a work session in which Mr. Andy Weiland presented a financial model; board members had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the analysis.
