Coffee County Library Board adopts term limits amendment to bylaws beginning July 2026

The Coffee County Library Board voted unanimously March 10 to amend its bylaws to limit consecutive service for trustees beginning with appointments made after July 1, 2026.
Kate Huddleston described the proposed verbiage as an edit to the bylaws and said that five members could be eligible to renew in June 2026, which would result in five vacancies by 2029 under the new rules; she said the change allows the board to offer shorter terms when appropriate. Rupa Blackwell moved to adopt the amendment, Lynda Welty seconded, and Chair Gary Winton called for a vote with all members present approving the change.
Key elements of the amendment state that members shall not serve more than two consecutive three-year terms; appointments made to complete an unexpired term will not count toward the consecutive-term limit, and former members may be reappointed after a three-year break in service. The board did not record any amendments to the proposed language during the meeting.
