The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted five millage-language resolutions and approved several administrative measures during its April 28, 2026 meeting in Mio.
The board passed resolutions proposing millage language for a Department of Veteran Affairs (Resolution 2026-003), Sheriff equipment (2026-004), Emergency Medical Service equipment (2026-005), EMS operations (2026-006) and an electorate authorization of a telephone surcharge for 911 services (2026-007). Each resolution passed on recorded roll-call votes with Commissioners Joe Breaugh, Ted Handrich and Tom McCauley voting yes.
Commissioner Joe Breaugh moved and Commissioner Tom McCauley seconded the motion to adopt Resolution 2026-003; the subsequent millage items were similarly moved and carried as recorded in the minutes.
The board also handled several personnel and administrative items. The board acknowledged the upcoming retirement of Deputy Clerk/Register of Deeds Jenny Cronkright, effective Aug. 1, 2026, and approved a motion to advertise and hire a full-time, non-union replacement at 35 hours per week with a starting wage of $16.86 per hour and county benefits.
Maintenance staffing was addressed when the board approved rehiring Herbert Baker as a seasonal part-time employee for the Oscoda County Fairgrounds and Smith Lake from May 1 through Sept. 30, 2026, at 28 hours per week and a starting wage of $14.25 per hour; the motion included a budget amendment.
On appointments, the board accepted a recommendation to appoint Peter Malan to the Oscoda County Economic Development Corporation & Brownfield Board for the remainder of a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2028. The motion was carried by the three commissioners in attendance.
Financial items included authorization for the Steiner Museum board to contract with Rondo & Sons Builders Inc. to perform insurance-settlement repairs for ice-storm damage, accepting a quote of $4,246 with $2,100 due upon approval and the balance due on completion to be paid from the Historical Commission building repair budget. The board also approved a $500 pollution-liability insurance renewal for the Dennis Kauffman Memorial Airport, effective July 11, 2026–July 11, 2027, and authorized the chair to sign.
All formal motions recorded in the meeting minutes carried unanimously in a three–zero roll-call pattern (Commissioners Breaugh, Handrich and McCauley present and voting). The board adjourned at 10:44 a.m. and scheduled its next regular meeting for May 12, 2026, at the Oscoda County Courthouse Annex in Mio.
