Board approves routine minutes, bills and Elton Elementary renovation bid; policy revisions pass

The Rockingham County School Board approved several routine and action items during its open session.
Minutes and financials: The board voted to approve minutes from the Nov. 25, 2024 meeting and followed the superintendent's recommendation to approve the November 2024 bills and mileage statements. Both motions passed on voice votes with those present responding in favor.
Elton Elementary renovation: Steve Reed, director of maintenance, reported that the renovation bid for Elton Elementary was publicly advertised and three firms submitted sealed bids. The board accepted the recommendation to award the contract to the low bidder, Lance Construction Company of Broadway, and approved the award by voice vote.
Policy revisions: A set of proposed policy revisions (including policies based on VSBA templates related to committee procedures and electronic participation) was brought forward for approval and passed on a voice vote.
Procedural note: The comprehensive plan adoption was postponed to allow an external consultant review (see separate item). There were no public comments signed up for the meeting.
Each approval was accomplished by motion, second and voice vote during the meeting; the transcript records affirmative responses from members present for each motion.
