On the kinship issue, Dr. Sites said the division is recommending re‑inserting language "that the School Division requires the parent or adult relative to obtain written verification from the local Department of Social Services" in cases when a nonresident student is living with a relative and the situation is not foster care or adoption. The change, she said, is intended to strengthen partnership with social services and provide resources to families.
The board discussed the corrections and heard clarifying questions from members about how notices of learning objectives are distributed to families. A motion to approve the set of policy changes on first reading was moved and seconded and put on the board’s consent to advance; the packet will return for final action at a subsequent meeting.
The administration also noted the JO update aligns fees charged for copies of student records with state and federal law rather than leaving those charges to local determination.
