Seventh‑grader Kate Howard told the West Point school board about her experience serving as a Virginia Senate page during the General Assembly session.
"My name is Kate Howard and I am in seventh grade. I was selected to be one of the 37 Virginia Senate pages," she said, describing the program’s schedule, dress codes, mandatory study hours and rotating duties (constituent assistant, bill preparation and floor standby). Howard said her mock bill on overfishing of the Chesapeake reached the floor during the program and she shared photos of field trips and presentations.
Earlier in the meeting Dr. Frasier presented monthly recognitions for National School Breakfast Week, National School Social Worker Week and other observances, and named students and staff of the month including kindergarten student Carter Ben and media specialist Miss Chandler Long. The board applauded Cast and Crew of the school production Newsies and acknowledged staff who supported performances and student activities.
The board also heard a winter athletics recap and a scholastic-bowl update during the delegation reports. Highlights included junior Cash Delaney reaching a major scoring milestone and multiple all-district and all-region honors across teams.
The recognitions segment concluded with applause and the meeting moved on to departmental presentations and action items.
