Millis committee approves handbook amendments and updated nondiscrimination policies

The Millis School Committee voted May 12 to approve handbook amendments for the district's elementary, middle and high schools and to adopt updated nondiscrimination and harassment policies.
Superintendent Milaney summarized the handbook changes as a coordinated update to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and to align the handbook with a revised committee policy approved in 2025. "These amendments will show compliance with federal state regulations and match, procedures and policies to those outlined in Massachusetts, for discipline, harassment, and bullying," Superintendent Milaney said, noting the changes had been reviewed by the Department of Education in advance of an upcoming visit.
The committee then moved, seconded and approved adoption of policy ACA (nondiscrimination), policy ACAB (harassment) and policy ACE (nondiscrimination on the basis of disability) to ensure immediate district compliance with current state and federal guidelines. Members asked about posting; staff said the new language will be "inserted into the website" and that temporary numbering differences will occur as the full policy book is renumbered.
The actions are procedural steps to bring district policy materials into conformity with state expectations ahead of the scheduled Department of Education review.
