DeKalb commissioners approve series of public-works contracts and term extensions

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a series of procurement items to maintain county services and infrastructure.
Contracts approved included: an increase and term extension to a multi-year chemicals contract (sodium hydroxide, chlorine, liquid oxygen and related chemicals) to support wastewater and sanitation operations; a cooperative agreement with Home Depot USA for maintenance supplies and targeted scrap-tire removal at identified problem locations; purchase of eight new 25-yard rear-loader refuse trucks to replace a prior plan to buy used trucks; and contract extensions for road resurfacing, PVC sewer pipe supply, valve insertion and several Watershed Management service contracts used for routine maintenance.
Watershed Management also secured extensions for hydrant replacement and valve/wet-tap installation contracts and approved herbicide application services for the Polebridge Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. Staff explained several items are term extensions intended to avoid service interruptions while procurements complete; the board approved each item by motion and voice vote, and held two items in committee for further review.
Commissioners asked operational questions on several items, including whether scrap-tire removal applies only to public right-of-way or includes private properties (staff said current scopes target specific public sites), whether contractors could collect serial numbers to help enforcement, and whether hydrant contracts would support hydrants at PDK airport. Staff answered that some scopes are site-specific and that follow-up contract language can be considered.
Several routine contract extensions were approved in a single sequence to maintain continuity of services while solicitations proceed. Items held in committee were noted and will return for future action. The board completed these agenda items and later returned to finalize the appointment interview.
