Solon Springs board approves contract, additional teacher collaborative time and a middle-school music requirement; enters closed session

The Solon Springs School District Board approved several administrative and personnel-related items at its May 19 meeting, including a services contract, instructional-collaboration days for teachers and technical policy updates.

By motion and second the board approved the C12 services contract (final amount noted as an increase of just under $5,000 from the prior year). The board also approved additional collaborative teacher release time totaling six half-days; staff said the time could be absorbed by adding five minutes to the student day and using a rotational supervision plan, though transportation and breakfast timing may require follow-up. The board approved technical corrections to district policy on second reading by motion and second.

Separately, the board voted to require middle-school music (band and/or choir) for students; during the vote one member was recorded as opposed. Board members discussed that the requirement could be rescinded or adjusted in subsequent years if necessary. Following these actions, the board voted to convene into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of public employees.

Other facilities and operations topics were discussed but tabled for further information, including security camera upgrade options and softball-field electrical repairs. The board asked staff to return with cost estimates and additional details on those items at a later meeting.
