The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education on Sept. 23 voted to delay final action on the superintendent job description and to table the middle and high school activities director job description until the board’s October meeting.
Board member James moved to table the superintendent description for further work; Rick seconded the motion, which passed after a lengthy discussion about aligning the posting with the district’s strategic plan and whether a job description should include measurable performance indicators. Rick said he "can't vote in favor of the superintendent job description" as presented because it is "out of sequence in relation to the strategic plan" and "lacks specificity of objectives, particularly key performance indicators" that would hold the superintendent accountable. Andrew described the job description as aligned mainly with state standards and cautioned that the posted job description "is not necessarily the place to get extremely granular" about strategic KPIs.
Board members also agreed to table the activities director job description until October. The vote to delay that position followed discussion from members who asked for clearer language around activities versus athletics and for duties that emphasize communication and liaison work with booster clubs, parent groups and community officials.
Supporters of the delay said extra time will allow staff and trustees to craft language that reflects district priorities and to provide model language for more specific accountability measures. Opponents argued the current language aligned with state guidance and that an up‑to‑date job description is needed even if the district’s strategic plan continues to evolve.
The items will return to the board in October for further edits and a fresh vote. The delay does not change current staffing; it postpones only adoption of the revised job descriptions.
