Chair recommends Lifeline bid for auditorium speakers; committee to send item to board

The Chair of the Platteville School District operations committee recommended that the committee consider Lifeline as the vendor to install new auditorium main speakers and asked that the bid be moved to the school board’s regular meeting on Sept. 24 for final approval.
The Chair said prior bids have been collected and that a key technical question is whether to use a flown subwoofer—saving floor space for a multiuse stage—or a grounded subwoofer, which may provide stronger perceived bass at floor level. "A pro of the flown would be that the stage has multiple uses," the Chair said; "a pro of the grounded one would be better sound quality." The Chair asked Lifeline to clarify recommended placement and total system costs before the board votes.
A committee member noted prior approvals for similar projects had run up to $32,725 and the group agreed to advance the Lifeline recommendation with that precedent in mind, pending vendor detail and a clearer estimate of long-term accessory costs such as microphones and ancillary equipment. The Chair confirmed the work would be funded from the district’s general maintenance budget and asked staff to prepare phased cost options and lifecycle estimates.
The committee did not take a formal vote in open session but agreed to place the Lifeline recommendation on the Sept. 24 board agenda with the expectation of providing more specification and phased cost options in the intervening weeks.
