Board approves consent agenda, adopts Wisconsin standards and clears graduation and trip requests

The Tomorrow River School District board handled several routine and policy items at its meeting and conducted votes on multiple items.

Consent agenda: a board member moved to approve the consent agenda as presented; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote with one opposed.

Academic standards and student requests: the board voted to adopt the Wisconsin academic standards as the district’s educational standards for 2024–25. The board also approved an early-graduation request for January 2025 and approved an overnight/extended trip request for a third-grade program (West Family program); each motion was seconded and carried by voice vote as recorded in the meeting.

Policy first reading: staff presented a 16-page revised policy in a first reading that would require training for all staff this year and re-training for facilitators; the revised policy also recognizes pregnancy and marital status among protected statuses and includes other substantive updates. Board members were briefed but no final action on the policy was recorded.

Closed session notice: the board stated it reserves the right to enter a closed session under state statute to discuss employment, promotion, compensation and performance evaluation data of public employees as well as maintenance staffing, confidential salary staff and transportation negotiations.

Next steps: routine approvals are effective; staff will schedule additional review of the revised policy and, if necessary, convene a closed session consistent with state statute to discuss personnel and negotiations.
