Board accepts superintendent's evaluation; members praise Gary Hogue as he prepares to hand duties to Dave War

The Fayette County Board of Education voted unanimously to accept Superintendent Gary Hogue's evaluation for item 5312, approving the motion 5-0 after Mr. Groom moved the motion and Mr. Christ seconded.

Board members used the meeting's "points of personal privilege" to thank Hogue for his tenure and to describe operational and student-achievement gains under his leadership. Miss Whitlock read a prepared letter on behalf of the board that praised Hogue's fairness, judgment and collaborative approach, saying in part, "Your character is comprehensive in experience, leadership, fairness, judgment, and respect." The board invited attendees to a small reception after the meeting to mark Hogue's departure.

Hogue, who spoke to the board near the meeting's end, described leaving a role that had been part of his life for 45 years. "I feel sad in a way because I am leaving something that's been a part of my life for 45 years. But I feel blessed to have been a part of that situation," he said, and added that he was "comfortable" handing operational leadership to Dave War, who has worked beside him. Hogue thanked staff and said the district has made measurable progress under the current team.

The board also noted a recent academic uptick described in the meeting as a roughly "5 to 6% increase" in achievement metrics; board members said final results would be presented by Miss Klein at a future meeting. The board scheduled two July meetings at the board office, on July 15 and July 29 at 6 p.m.

The formal motion and vote covered only acceptance of the superintendent's evaluation; the meeting record shows no formal action to appoint or hire the incoming superintendent during this session.
