Brook High FBLA students present club activities, fundraising and state honors to Brooke County Schools board

Students from Brook High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) gave the Brooke County Schools Board a detailed update at the board’s Jan. 27 meeting, describing membership, fundraising and competitive achievements.
“Hi, my name is Elliot McDonald,” the student presenter said, introducing the chapter and outlining its goals in business management, operations and networking. McDonald told the board the chapter has 171 student members and said the Brook High chapter has been the largest in the state for three years.
Student officers described a series of events and community-service efforts that supported the chapter. They recounted a tailgate recruitment event, an Apple Fest food sale, a Powderpuff football fundraiser and a trunk-or-treat that distributed about 290 pieces of candy. Morgan McKenny, identified as FBLA secretary, said the chapter’s recent Super Bowl food drive collected about 583 cans of soup.
Officers also described service projects required by FBLA’s national leadership criteria, including assembling ‘niku baskets’ with donated infant formula, books and other supplies to support local mothers and babies, and scholarship awards distributed at senior scholarship night. Officers said they are preparing for the State Leadership Conference and reported completing multiple sections of the chapter’s Champion criteria.
Board members praised the students’ leadership and academic performance, and suggested coordination with senior fundraising efforts and local community groups. The board applauded the students and thanked FBLA sponsor Chad Hot for his work with the program.
The presentation closed with the board inviting continued engagement between the FBLA chapter and district initiatives, and with students thanking the board for the opportunity to present.
