District officials say roofing projects progressing; East Street work realigned with city

Wauwatosa School District resource committee members were told Aug. 13 that roofing projects at Eisenhower and Roosevelt are moving forward and that outside building consultants are providing regular inspections and photographic progress reports.

The facilities presenter said ECS, the district’s building consultant, has begun site visits and supplied photo updates for the projects, and that project contingencies remain “healthy,” giving staff confidence in the budget so far. The presenter also said the district applied for Focus on Energy incentives tied to added insulation on the roofs, which staff said could return funds to the district but did not provide a specific rebate amount.

Committee members asked about recent delays. Staff said heavy seasonal rain slowed some work and that a limited amount of activity will continue into the school year. “We’re satisfied with where they’re at given the time frame,” the facilities presenter told the committee.

Separately, staff updated the committee on East Street construction coordination with the city. The city paused a portion of work to realign contractor sequencing; district engineers adjusted civil drawings so curb, sidewalk and drainage elements align with city plans. Staff said the pause is not expected to create major contract-cost increases, though they noted modest additional professional-services expenses could occur while the city and contractor finalize schedules.

The committee did not take formal votes on the roofing projects or East Street updates during the session. Members asked that the superintendent include the item in the next general board meeting or the superintendent’s update so the full board can be informed.
