Consultant Chris Cazi of Ares Associates (presented as the consultant) and district staff outlined a steering committee that includes district and city representatives, community stakeholders, and sports‑program leaders. The board approved previously committed district funds for its portion of the feasibility study and heard that the consultant expects a multi‑month process through roughly December, with initial meetings scheduled this month and additional monthly check‑ins.
Superintendent noted the project history and cautioned that the district cannot unilaterally fund a major complex by referendum without city and partner involvement; the feasibility work will examine phased options, siting, community input and funding scenarios. "Even if it's phased, that's fine — but show the community that there's progress," the superintendent said, urging realistic expectations about funding partnerships.
Next steps include stakeholder outreach, technical analysis and periodic steering‑committee reports back to the board. No formal action beyond the previously approved study funding was taken at the July meeting.
