Profile: Bernie Elementary secretary Lisa Davis reflects on more than two decades in Walla Walla Public Schools

Lisa Davis, head secretary at Bernie Elementary, recalled growing up in Western Washington and said she has worked in Walla Walla Public Schools since 1999. She described early experiences that led her into education — mentoring younger students at camp, participating in a high-school kindergarten program where she learned to write lesson plans, and early jobs in the district including bus driving and running the in-school suspension program.

Davis said she moved to Walla Walla in 1989, raised two sons and transitioned through district roles including work in a now-disbanded tech library and, since about 2008, her position at Bernie Elementary. She spoke about the relationships she values with families and colleagues, citing multi-child families who attend the same school for 15 years and staff members who support one another during difficult times.

Discussing school traditions, Davis said Bernie Elementary organizes events such as a fifth-grade basketball program, popcorn fundraisers, a talent show and field day activities that included bringing fire trucks onto campus. She also said she has served on the Dixie school board for several years and has been the board chair recently. Outside work, Davis mentioned church involvement, volunteering with Vacation Bible School and fostering children.
