Sultan School District plans full-district evacuation drill Oct. 15 and updates reunification plans

District safety staff described ongoing work to refine reunification and evacuation procedures and told the board the district will run a full-district evacuation drill on Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. (with Gold Bar excluded because of flood risk). Board members were invited to attend and observe.
Staff said the district has been working with an external organization (I Love You Guys Foundation) and the Educational Service District to develop reunification plans, signage and portable "reunification totes" for off-site relocations. The safety director said the district is balancing realism and student well-being when planning drills and is avoiding simulation approaches that could traumatize young children.
Officials also described the Rave emergency-notification system the district uses to summon law enforcement and notify staff in an incident and noted that the Oct. 15 drill will be followed by after-action updates and plan refinements. Board members were offered materials (the Emergency Operations Plan) and the option to be present at school-level drills or the district drill.
Staff emphasized age-appropriate communication for younger students and the importance of practice so students and staff know what to do in a range of emergencies, including floods and other non-violent incidents.
