Board approves Good News Club facility use at Sultan schools

The Sultan School District board on Oct. 28 approved a facilities‑use request from the Good News Club, a volunteer Bible‑study program organized by Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Scott Kon, pastor of R House Baptist Church, told the board the club plans weekly, age‑appropriate sessions that include a Bible lesson, creative learning activities and scripture memorization. Kon said volunteers complete FBI background checks and the program requires two adults with students at all times. He described the club as non‑denominational and not district‑sponsored: "this is a facility's use request; this is not a district‑sponsored club," he said.
Board members asked about school contacts, registration and oversight. Kon said the district's community director and area director (Jean Jones) had been contacted and that parents complete registration forms before a child attends. Kon also said insurance coverage had been provided.
The presentation and board discussion emphasized that the Good News Club would be an external group using school facilities under the district's facilities‑use rules rather than a school‑sponsored activity. After the discussion the board moved to approve the request; the motion passed with a voice vote of "all in favor." The district will follow its standard facilities‑use process for scheduling and registration.
