The Sultan School District Board voted Nov. 18 to approve a locally provided Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for district employees after hearing program details and union support.
Dr. Paul Douglas presented the proposal, describing an in-person option the district obtained pricing for. He told the board "the rate is $140 per employee regardless of the size that we have," and offered a rough estimate for about 300 employees: "that's about $5,040." He said the program would provide employees with an initial connection to resources and "three visits per situation" as part of the offering.
Union representatives present told the board they had been consulted and supported the program. Board members moved to approve the EAP proposal; student representatives provided advisory votes and trustees approved the motion. Meeting discussion noted the service was not included in the current year's budget and would need to be incorporated in future budget planning.
Board members and staff framed the program as a resource to help employees get timely support and be connected to community resources during personal or family crises. No additional conditions or amendments to the proposal were recorded in the minutes.
Next steps identified by staff included budgeting the program in a future cycle and implementing enrollment and outreach with employee groups.
