Board hears first reading of lead‑in‑drinking‑water action plan; 41 fixtures identified for replacement

The Ridgefield School District board received a first reading of the district’s action plan to address lead in drinking water, a statutorily required effort to test and remediate fixtures. Board materials noted the district contracted a tester and received the final report Oct. 21.
Staff said they have completed the required mitigation steps and have ordered replacement fixtures for all faucets and drinking fountains that measured above five parts per billion (ppb), consistent with guidance from the contractor and the Washington State Department of Health. A board member asked how many fixtures were affected; staff answered that 41 fixtures required remediation, concentrated in Union Ridge (original building), Southridge (original building) and several aged fixtures at Ridgefield High School.
Installations are underway and the district will conduct required retesting after replacements are complete. The action plan will be returned to the board for approval after an opportunity for public comment at a future meeting.
