West High athletics: participation grows, teams report regional and state qualifiers

The board heard a detailed recap of West High fall athletics, which saw participation rise from 132 to 162 student athletes across teams.
"About 52% of students in grades 8 through 12 participated in one of our sports activities in the fall," said Mr. Hudgin, who presented team breakdowns, individual qualifiers and honors. He noted cross‑country qualifiers for state competition, doubled golf participation, a 4–7 football season with a region playoff appearance, and a large volleyball roster that produced district and regional honors. The one‑act drama team placed first in region and third at state with several individual awards.
Hudgin thanked coaches, volunteers and school photographers for support and emphasized improving year‑to‑year participation numbers. The presentation included team rosters, postseason results and individual recognitions; the board asked questions but no budget votes accompanied the report.
