Education subcommittee aims to bring O'Fallon history into classrooms; grant could fund 18,000 brochures

Mr. Roland, reporting for the education subcommittee, described a set of intended outcomes aimed at increasing student exposure to O'Fallon's history. The subcommittee’s top goal is "to ensure that Fort Zumwalt School District students understand the rich and diverse history of O'Fallon," and members said they plan to expand outreach to other nearby districts and to private schools.

The subcommittee proposed to accomplish the goal by recruiting community volunteers and local historical societies (for example, veterans groups and the Daughters of the American Revolution) to help build curriculum materials. Mr. Roland said the group plans to meet monthly during the school year and hopes to have materials ready for classroom use by September.

Commissioners discussed a grant pre‑application that, if funded, would cover production of about 18,000 brochures intended for distribution in schools. "If that does go through, that's what the intention is for those 18,000 brochures is to be something that goes to the school," Mr. Roland said. He volunteered to pass materials to staff (Amy) for distribution and to coordinate with curriculum advisors to align content with school standards.

Commissioners agreed the subcommittee should coordinate with school district curriculum staff and local historical organizations to finalize content and distribution plans. No formal funding decision was made at the meeting; the item was procedural and preparatory pending grant outcomes.
