DAR chapter announces two America250 markers in Fort Zumwalt Park and April 27 dedication

Pomeroy Foundation marker recognizing Jacob Zumwalt and a broader America250 marker celebrating men and women who achieved American independence. She said the Jacob Zumwalt submission required extensive documentation, including a translated 1796 Spanish land grant and historian letters, and that O'Fallon is the only marker site of its kind in the St. Louis area for the American Revolution program.
The chapter scheduled a public dedication for Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at Fort Zumwalt Park, beginning in front of the log cabin and proceeding along the trail to a second marker site; the program will include the Lewis and Clark fife and drum corps (youth performers) and was installed with assistance from the Parks Department.
Wilbert described the DAR as a nonprofit, nonpolitical service organization and provided historic context for the society and its national museum and genealogy resources. She noted that the state America250 commission was established by SCR 7 (signed by Governor Parsons) and that the Pomeroy Foundation's roadside‑marker program aims to install 250 roadside markers nationally.
Council members thanked Wilbert and invited public participation in the April dedication; no formal council action was requested at this meeting.
