Watkins said the collection included family histories and military records and that Rob Lammy in GIS provided coordinates used in the application.
"We ran across some really interesting pieces," Watkins said, describing Revolutionary War and War of 1812 service records and other archival material that document the Hill family’s regional significance. Commissioners discussed the application’s scope: a one‑page historic narrative plus supporting pages and photographs, with a plot survey that would incorporate the on‑site cemetery.
Watkins and other commissioners noted a timeline constraint: several application elements, including a formal survey, must be completed within a limited window (discussants referenced a 30‑day period tied to the application intake). Commissioners explored options for obtaining the survey, including hiring a surveyor recommended by state contacts or pursuing a grant to cover survey costs.
Commissioners also noted that the Daughters of the American Revolution plans a marker dedication for Fort Zumwalt and the Hill House on April 27; the Parks Department is coordinating the event and broader 250th‑anniversary activities.
The commission agreed to coordinate with staff to finalize application documents, arrange a survey in the required window, and continue compiling archival material for the narrative and supporting pages.
