District reports early gains from Neuroline literacy program and athletic successes

Administrators told the Colstrip Public Schools board that early, partial implementation of the Neuroline program produced measurable reading gains and increased student engagement, and they asked the board to consider adding seats for next year.

A staff member who monitored the program said five students began Neuroline this year but the cohort did not complete the full sequence because the program arrived late in the school year. Despite that, the staff member reported that each student showed either their highest or second‑highest MAP reading growth between fall and spring, and at least one classroom teacher reported students volunteering to read—an observed increase in confidence.

The report included a request to expand access: the program has three levels and some students could repeat levels; administrators asked the board to approve slots for next year if funding allows.

Administrators also clarified an enrollment point: nine students described in a high‑school report as "online" are recorded as homeschooled and do not count toward the district's enrollment total for certain reporting purposes. The board discussed the distinction to avoid mischaracterizing the district as an online school and requested clearer language in future reports.

Finally, athletic staff reported regional competition results: the boys golf team placed first at the Southern B division tournament, the girls placed third, and both teams qualified for state competition next week; track details and upcoming schedules were also noted.
