Staff said restoration work saved the small gym floor at Highland and it was usable in time for girls basketball tryouts. Jonathan explained that a contractor accidentally pulled a junction box while rerouting electrical wiring during demolition; "it was an accident... the contractor didn't know it was there so when they grabbed the wire on the outside during the demo they pulled that junction box about 10 ft and it broke off the sprinkler head," he said, describing flooding in a roughly 10‑by‑10 area. The contractor is taking liability and district insurance will not cover the damage, staff said.
During demolition staff discovered multiple cable runs passing beneath the old gym floor that need to be rerouted or buried deeper to allow new footers and construction; staff noted rerouting to the parking lot or extensive external rework could add hundreds of thousands of dollars and cause delays, so burying deeper was presented as the preferred option. Staff said Idaho Power and transformer locations were involved in planning the reroutes.
Staff also gave a brief PV Tech update: paving lifts were in place, painted markings applied and a cemented entrance installed; finishing touches were expected by the end of the month or the first week of December.
Trustees asked for follow‑up photos and coordination with electrical and power partners before final construction scheduling.
