Community groups urge scenario-based planning for school safety; board pledges follow-up

A community organizer told the board she wants clearer roles and scenario-based planning so community members can provide support outside school grounds without placing teachers in response roles.
"What we're looking for here is very clear roles and clear lanes for community response…not by putting some sort of blanket response like soft lockdowns but more about scenario planning," Christina Broning Lassalde said during public comment. She urged the district and community partners to plan for a range of events — for example, how to coordinate if immigration enforcement activity occurs near a school at dismissal time — so staff feel supported and community volunteers know when and how to act.
Board members responded with appreciation for continued community involvement and said they will keep safety-planning conversations active. One board member asked that updates on the Ridgeland property and related projects be posted to the district project website and administration agreed to do so.
The board did not take formal action on safety protocols at the meeting; members said discussion and scenario planning will continue with parents, staff and relevant stakeholders.
