Berwyn South SD 100 reports education center progress; maintenance grant to fund door replacements
Summary
District staff reported the education center construction is advancing (gas service and transformer on site, drywall and roof work underway) and that a maintenance grant will fund exterior—and some interior—door replacements this summer.
District administrators told the board the education center renovation is progressing on schedule: electricians are on site, drywall is going up, roof work is underway and Nicor gas service and a transformer have been installed, with power expected in the next few weeks.
The superintendent reported that outdoor classroom construction is planned for summer and that HVAC upgrades are scheduled at Piper along with roof work. Board members were told that the district secured a maintenance (matching) grant that will fund replacement of exterior doors at several schools and a limited number of interior doors this year in order to improve building security.
Administration said weekly safety walks are ongoing and that furniture and interior planning are being coordinated; the board asked that updates about the Ridgeland property and other projects be posted to the project website and the administration agreed to do so.
The board was advised that the buildings and grounds committee will meet in the coming month to discuss next steps for Leverne and other capital projects. No final contract awards or additional budget approvals were announced at the meeting.
