Bangor council unanimously approves zoning, parking and a new legislative committee

Counselor Flo moved ordinance 26-086 to remove a vegetated buffer requirement between off-street parking and certain parcels in the Government and Institutional Service District, with explicit exceptions for adjacent residential, cemetery and school uses; the council approved the ordinance 8-0 following a unanimous recommendation from the planning board.
Council Walker moved ordinance 26-087 to amend the land development code by removing State Street from the minor arterial definition because it is already listed as a major arterial; the council passed the amendment 8-0.
Counselor Carson moved ordinance 26-088 to rezone approximately six acres (map R23-00003-B on Ohio Street) from Rural Residence and Agricultural District (RNA) to Government and Institutional Service District (GNISD); the council approved the rezoning 8-0.
Counselor Carson also moved passage of ordinance 26-089 to create a standing legislative committee that will liaise with the city's state legislative delegation and coordinate municipal input on state legislation; the council approved the new committee 8-0.
All four ordinances were recorded as passing by an 8-0 roll-call vote. The planning board had reviewed and unanimously recommended the zoning-related items on Feb. 17, 2026. The council indicated the new legislative committee will meet after the council's annual meeting to coordinate advocacy with state officials.
