Board schedules Nov. 1 work session; hears update on transportation policy and agrees to recurring director and budget reports

The Summers County Board scheduled a Nov. 1 work session to address suicide-prevention and other program reports, heard that a transportation policy will be coordinated with federal guidance, and approved including regular director reports and monthly budget updates on future agendas.
The Summers County Board of Education set a work session for Friday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at Summers County Comprehensive High School to allow space for principals and to address items including suicide-prevention programming. Board members asked to invite counselors, CIS and program directors for a fuller discussion.
On transportation policy, staff reported that Trey and Mr. Boon will meet by Zoom next week to align the district's draft policy with federal guidance following a recent state accident; the board was told no action was required at this meeting and that Summers County may be ahead of other counties on the policy development.
The board also approved a motion to add recurring agenda items: director reports on attendance and student achievement and a monthly budget report (or alternation of budget and director reports across two monthly meetings). Members said posting director and financial reports regularly would improve public transparency and provide a better pulse on the district's balance-sheet items.
Board members said they expect a written report from the state department (Alex Kryer referenced) by the end of the week or early next week, potentially before the work session, which could inform discussion.
