Superintendent reports enrollment steady at 783; outlines summer maintenance and athletics start dates

The Freeburg CCSD 70 superintendent reported current district enrollment at 783 students, a decline of three from the previous count, and summarized staffing and facilities work planned for the summer.
"We have a total of 783 students; we were down three," the superintendent said while reporting enrollment figures and ongoing efforts to complete student files as part of the ROE audit. The administration has contacted families to update records after staff turnover.
Registration for the district office will be open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registrations handled in the district office by Rachel and directional signage and online notices to guide families. The superintendent also reminded the board that tomorrow's dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m. to allow teachers time to complete permanent records and inventories.
Facilities work planned for the summer includes replacing six interior/exterior doors (with one door delivery delayed until late July), digging out a ditch to improve drainage, oil-and-chip work on the main parking lot, carpet replacement in four classrooms, and extensive cleaning of classrooms, gyms, cafeterias and bathrooms.
Athletics: the conference-determined "dead week" (no open gyms) will be July 28'Aug. 4, and the official start date for baseball, softball and cross country for the 2024'25 school year is Aug. 5.
The superintendent also noted an IB conference scholarship to help boards with limited funds attend and that the resolutions submission period runs through the end of June, with conference registration opening June 3.
