Pendleton County board approves budget supplements, including $300,000 Communities & Schools grant

The Pendleton County Schools Board approved four budget supplements and accepted the treasurer’s June 30, 2024 report at its regular meeting.

The supplements include an $88,000 special‑education grant for speech supplies and software, a $2,100 grant for a secondary‑transition conference, an $832 grant for Canvas conference expenses, and a $300,000 Communities & Schools grant intended to cover salaries, benefits and supplies for school‑based integrated services. The superintendent presented the supplements (identified in the agenda as 101–104) and recommended approval; the board approved them on a voice vote.

Treasurer presented the month‑end financials and described the district’s cash position as sound. The report noted year‑to‑date cash receipts of just over $16 million, summer payroll timing that increases disbursements in June–August, and that interest earnings for the year had crossed the $100,000 threshold. The presenter said the district’s early FY25 projection shows roughly a $1.2 million surplus, while cautioning that hires and benefit elections could change encumbrance and expenditure levels.

Board members asked for and received clarification about grant carryover rules and the two‑year spending window for federal/state supplement funds. The superintendent said staff will monitor legislative developments that could affect state grant amounts for next year.

The board approved the treasurer’s report and the four listed budget supplements by voice vote. The district will reflect the supplements and grant carryover in upcoming financial statements.
