Fayette County Schools updates athletic-field work and bids for Oakill bus charging station

Facilities director Mr. Payton and staff gave a wide-ranging update July 15 on the district’s construction and site projects, saying athletic-field renovations, new lighting and an Oakill bus-charging station are moving forward.
Payton said additional rock removal has delayed final completion of the Midland High School baseball field but officials expect the field to be available for play by mid-August if current schedules hold. He showed photos of field drainage work and described topsoil and seeding steps needed to finish the turf.
On lighting, Payton said materials for a Boil High softball-lighting project arrive July 17 and additional material for other fields arrives Aug. 4; the district selected Musco lighting through a cooperative procurement and expects turnkey power-station work that the district advertised on its website.
Payton also outlined plans for an Oakill bus-charging station in the new bus parking lot, including two 4‑inch conduit runs and site base work. The district will hold a pre-bid next week with bids due the following week; Payton said the district currently has no electric buses but is preparing parking and power infrastructure with one charger installed initially and room to upgrade.
The board also heard brief updates on sensory rooms, playground surfacing choices and ongoing construction at Metabridge and Middle Trail elementary projects; Middle Trail was reported about three weeks behind schedule but proceeding toward substantial completion.
